Message to Potential Volunteers
Dear Dedicated Volunteer,
Good news/buenas noticias! Thousands of poor, medically underserved Latinos will receive cancer screenings and other medical services that would be otherwise unattainable at our Día de la Mujer Latina health fiestas. Thank you for your interest in volunteering your time, energy and resources to save a life.
Since 1997, Día de la Mujer Latina, this unique (501©3 non profit organization) culturally and linguistically proficient health fiesta project, has achieved tremendous success because of its partnership with the American Cancer Society, the Mexican Consulate, local Latino-based organizations, and metropolitan hospitals/county clinics, in an effort to eliminate health disparity among our ethnic group. We provide Latinas with free or low cost breast and cervical cancer education/screening, HIV tests, vision tests, STDs tests, Diabetes screening, pregnancy tests in addition to domestic violence education. This one-day health fiesta is currently being replicated in 22 cities, 9 counties in Georgia, and in Puerto Rico. We address issues unique to our Latino youth, such as teen drinking, teen smoking, teen pregnancy and teen violence. Although, initially the health fiesta focused on breast cancer education and early detection screening, it is now a site for health awareness and preventative care for all the familia.
Please take a few moments to review our project, share in the vision, and help us save lives. You will have the opportunity to participate, either with your presence, your skills and/or your donation. Feel free to call us for additional information.
Please read the description of volunteer assignments below, and choose specific areas which you may want to serve in. We have two different Volunteer Forms, one for medical providers and one for everyone else. Each form includes instructions on how to return your information to us.
If you have specific questions on either volunteering or becoming a sponsor please contact us.
